PAULO GOMES (pianista, compositor)

Bio:

Curso de composição no Conservatório de Música do Porto. Mestrado em Interpretação Artística – Piano Jazz, na Escola Superior de Música do Porto, tendo sido distinguido com uma bolsa de mérito pelo I.P.P.

Na sua actividade de pianista e compositor, teve o privilégio de trabalhar em palcos e/ou estúdios de gravação com: Sheilla Jordan, David Murray, Herb Geller, Henry Lowther, Peter King, Jullian Arguelles, Eric Vloeimans, Montez Coleman, Rolf Delfos, David Chamberlain, Matt Wates, Martin Shaw, Fátima Serro, Zé Eduardo, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orquestra Clássica do Algarve,e muitos outros.

Foi convidado, na qualidade de pianista de jazz, para variadíssimos programas de televisão e rádio. Entre estes, destacam-se o “Jazz a Prêto e Branco” de José Duarte (na RTP), “Mil e uma escolhas” de Madalena Balsa (na RDP Ant1), e os concertos com emissão em directo na RDP Ant2.

Desde o início dos anos 90, participou em inúmeros festivais de jazz, em Portugal, Espanha, Alemanha, Bélgica, Holanda e França.

É professor de piano-jazz no Conservatório de Música do Porto.

15 CDS gravados. Paralelamente ao Jazz, participou em concertos e gravações de CDS de bandas como: “Andanças do Mar”; “Mar do Mundo” e “Classificados”.

PAULO GOMES (pianist, composer)

In the ’80s, he studied piano and harmony in the Oporto Jazz School. At the same time, he took a course in composition at the Oporto Music Conservatory. Between 2009 and 2011, he did a Masters degree course in Artistic Interpretation – Jazz Piano, at Oporto Superior Music School, having been honored with a merit scholarship by IPP.

He is one of the most respected pianists and composers in the jazz in Portugal. In its more than 20-years old career, he had the privilege of working on stage and / or recording studios with: Sheila Jordan, David Murray, Herb Geller, Henry Lowther, Art Themen, Peter King, Jullian Arguelles, Eric Vloeimans, Montez Coleman, Rolf Delfos, David Chamberlain, Matt Wates, Martin Shaw, Ben van Dungen, Fatima Serro , Lisbon Metropolitan Symphonic Orchestra, Algarve Symphonic Orchestra, and many others. With these, he worked all around in Portugal, (continental and islands), Spain, Belgium, Holland, Germany and France.

In several of these formations, he wrote and arranged original music. He composed music based on the work of the great Portuguese poets (registered in two CDs). He wrote music for the “European Movement Jazz Orchestra” He was invited, as a jazz pianist, for lots of programs for television and radio.

Since the early 90s, he participated in numerous jazz festivals in Portugal, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Holland and France.

He teaches jazz piano at the Oporto Music Conservatory. Discography (Jazz):
